 Brushfire of Freedom

No one can accurately predict the future.  Our world is far too complex to enable any real estimate of what will happen next.  This is one of the reasons that we know “global warming” is a hoax.  You can estimate and establish probability of an occurrence based on data, facts, and analysis.  You will never be able to predict future events with 100% certainty.

The sun will come out, tomorrow?  Let’s hope.  I will have eggs for breakfast on Sunday morning?  Perhaps, if you live that long, and you have eggs, and that you get up in time for breakfast.  You can not predict the future, but you can establish a probability that certain events will occur.

Barring the most unforeseeable circumstance, the sun will come out tomorrow.  Bet your bottom dollar.  That’s a pretty high probability, and a relief to most of us here on planet earth.

With that in mind, let‘s discuss the probable future of Obamacare.  We’ll base this discussion in past events, comparisons of similar programs, and the current state of similar health care systems.  Let’s also consider, for the sake of comparison, the status of other government programs.  This is a typical, basic, comparative analysis that will give us some insight into the probable future of Obamacare.

A close example of the socialized medicine at the heart of Obamacare can be found right across the border in Canada.  For years, Canadians have been “given” free government healthcare.  Taxes were increased on products deemed health issues like cigarettes and liquor.  This new tax revenue stream was used to offset the costs to the government.  Claude Castonguay cooked up this idea back in the 1960’s, and Canada has been dealing with it since.

In June of 2008, Claude admitted that “single payer” healthcare was a failure.  Said Claude, "We thought we could resolve the system's problems by rationing services or injecting massive amounts of new money into it,”.  Since that was a failure, Claude said, “We are proposing to give a greater role to the private sector so that people can exercise freedom of choice."  Beginning in 2008, Canada started to allow more and more private health care providers to set up shop and furnish services to Canadians.  “Quebec Care” is failing, and private health care is moving in to save the people of Canada.

We need not go to Canada to see the potential future of Obamacare.  Sliding down the eastern seaboard of the US to the “Commonwealth of Massachusetts” will take you to the home of “RomneyCare”, the US precursor to Obamacare.  According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, “...fewer than half of the state's primary care practices are accepting new patients, down from 70% in 2007...”.  Additional statistics include:

    • The average wait time for a routine checkup - 48 days
    • 43 days to secure an appointment with a gastroenterologist
    • 41 days to see an OB/GYN, up from 34 last year
    • Emergency room visits up 9% between 2004 and 2008

This is a US-based single-payer health care plan much like Obamacare.  The impact of socialized medicine is not a prediction in Massachusetts, it is a reality.  While not an indication of Obamacare’s future, you would have to say that the probability of a similar program, in a similar location, having a similar impact is fairly high.  Add to the fact that the man responsible for RomneyCare now wants to repeal Obamacare and you can see a relationship with the Canadian system.

Looking at other US government-run programs we can see similar failure.  The feds have just announced a $2.2B loss in the postal service.  Note that similar losses in FedEx and UPS are not occurring.  AmTrak loses about $40 per passenger, requiring hundreds of millions in government subsidies.  School breakfast programs, run by the government, discriminate against children because of shoes.  Irish government programs have no greater success, stealing from private pensions to fund their failing programs.

So a quick summary for those who’ve not been keeping score.  Socialized medicine in Canada?  A failure as defined by its founder.  Socialized medicine in the US?  A systems who’s statistics clearly indicate failure and who’s founder stands against similar programs.  Other government programs like AmTrak and the USPS?  Bleeding money at the expense of American taxpayers.

There are some significant similarities between Obamacare, RomneyCare, “Quebec Care”, and other US Government programs.  This basic assessment makes it clear.  It is highly probable programs of similar type and location will have similar outcomes.  Are you ready?
