Let’s Talk Budgets, Shall We?

There’s a lot of discussion about the budget lately.  Our budget deficit is setting records, both in size and as a percentage of the overall economy.  There are portions of the Obama administration that are bigger than the entire government at the time of LBJ.  We as a nation are rapidly going broke, and this is never good for us, or for other countries.

If the US budget were your house accounts, you would declare bankruptcy and prepare to move.  If it were your business accounts, you would already be in Chapter 11.  We are spending money on monkey studies, preserving wooden arrows, and chasing the hoax of global warming.  The solution Obama is considering is more spending.  We are implementing a health care program that has been declared unconstitutional with money we don’t have to help people who are in the country illegally.  And Obama wants more.  Oh, much more.  He wants as much of your money as he can get his hands on.  He knows the time is running short, so he will try to grab every dime of your hard earned cash he can to advance his socialist agenda.  He plans to use the deficit to justify his continued theft.

If your personal budget were in this condition, you would cut back, or cut out, the expensive parties, the private flights to Hawaii, the golf, the money for other people that provides no real value, and then you would look for more ways to cut.  Maybe you wouldn’t spend so much on that new industry that isn’t really showing much promise.  Maybe cut back on some of that research into “global warming” that seems to be leading nowhere.  There are two sides to every budget, income and outlay.  In tough times, we all do our best to reduce our outlay because we know the economy will impact our income.

Instead of taking these steps, Obama and the Dems want you to believe that their excessive spending is your fault, and therefor you must pay.  They would raise your taxes so that they can continue to spend.  They need more money to bail out their auto-union buddies. The idea of reducing outlay is beyond the liberal mind to grasp, well, except when they expect you to cut back so they can have more of your money.  Your budget will suffer so that they can keep up their spending habits.

Obama could pay attention to the message we tried to send to him and to Dems in November.  We made it clear that the spending had to stop.  We removed nearly all those we could who had created this massive debt, hoping that Obama would get the message.  He didn’t.  We hoped that the libs would hear us when we said that entitlements for illegal immigrants was unacceptable.  He didn’t.  Obama is in an enviable position right now.  He could do exactly what we’ve asked, make us all very happy, prevent a government shut down, and reduce the deficit, all with just one effort.

He won’t.

Budgets in our government come from The House of Representatives.  Our Founders set things up this way because they recognized that it is our money, and our representatives should control our money.  Fortunately we have a House that, at least at the outset, appears to be listening to the people.  We know that in less than two years this government will be up once again for election, and we can once again do our best to make our voices heard.  Between now and then, our representatives should push to pass the things we’ve elected them to pass.  We should see a smaller budget, less spending, and a shrinking deficit.  We expect our government to live within its means, just as we are expected to live within ours.  That is what you do with budgets.
