"Don't ask, Don't Tell" is kaput. Gone. Bereft of life, it rests in piece. It has moved on and joined the bleedin' choir invisible. DADT Is... an Ex Law!
For which we should all be grateful.
You see, somehow, a few genuinely homophobic and/or religious zealots somehow convinced a lot of very good and fair-minded straight people to act in a way not fair-minded at all. A lot of people seemed to feel that if we let this happen that we would somehow be "condoning their lifestyle". If we didn't do something, it would be "an assault on traditional values" and all of us, ALL OF US had to do something about this RIGHT NOW!
And that is why we insist women wear a Burka or we stone them.
Funny, I'm not sure how that got in there. I meant to talk about "gays and kicking them out". Weird though isn't it? I mean the logic is almost identical.
A few key points:
1) At no point in the process did DADT ever stop anyone in the army who was gay, from being gay. Verdict: No Change.
2) No straight person in Bravo company will suddenly become gay. Verdict: No Change.
3) DADT's repeal will not suddenly make modest and gay Private York start to prance-about like a limp-wristed bad 70s sitcom character. Verdict: No Change.
4) While some of the outfits in the Navy are suspect, there will be no sudden outward "gay appearance" to our military. Though a splash of color couldn't hurt, and perhaps the more fashion conscious among them could volunteer and... Nah, I'm just messing with you. Verdict: No Change.
The job of a soldier, sailor, airman, marine, et al is to keep us safe -- period. They will do what they have always done -- an extraordinary job.
It is a shame that more Republican's couldn't get their heads out of their DADT and help to repeal it. Reid and company hate the military, and except for wealthy donors in San Francisco, honestly do not care much for gays either. They did this strictly to brand Republicans as intolerant, and listening to Huckabee and company hem-and-haw I'd have to say they did a good job at it. Listen up people, when Harry Reid is on the right side of any issue, you should be embarrassed. Maybe that explains the sudden converts to the policy's ending? I would like to point out that some of us conservatives have long been in favor of this happening (*cough That's NONE of your #$&% Business cough*) but I'm not really going to question the turn-around. I'm just glad to see it.
Right now there are some very tired soldiers on the front lines. I could care less about the gender of the person they are writing home to, only that they have enough stamps.
Bless them.
