Brushfire of Freedom
The Conservative Cowboy
The title of this week’s blog is a very simple question; however the ramifications of the answer are vital to the health of this Nation. Now there have been many different items throughout our short history that has differentiated us from the rest of the world, but the one constant from the beginning was a sense of pride in our country, ideals and people.
Now I am afraid that many people in the nation have lost that pride, I see it in Washington with all of the new government handouts and so called “social programs”. I see it in the work ethic of younger generation; I see it every time our Commander in Chief apologizes to the rest of the world for “intrusive” United States foreign policy.
We are American’s, and it is time that we started acting like it, where is the Nationalism that we have held so vital in our beliefs since the beginning. I attribute much of the change to FDR’s new Deal, and all of the subsequent legislation that came about during LBJ’s time in the white house; Massive government spending and an increase in the amount of control and size of the government in our lives. For those that don’t believe me tell me one program from the new Deal that is still in operation and turns a profit? I would wager that all of them are outdated and obsolete, but we cannot fix them, we have to come up with even more legislation. Take the social security act of 1935 for example. I know I will never see a dime of that money which I have so diligently put into this system, and for what? We can’t even pay the people that contributed from the beginning. For average American families, social security tax is one of the largest taxes we pay. The government is already running on IOU’s so I can forget about using any of that money. Here’s an idea, let me set my own money aside and invest in my own retirement. Give me the opportunity to decide how I want that money spent. Pride comes from self-respect and self worth, no better way to redeem it than by allowing me to put money aside every paycheck and watch my nest egg grow. I feel pride when I walk into work every day and earn my living because I know I am setting myself up for those golden years. When that day comes where I am able to say goodbye to the working class and start my retirement, I have every bit of confidence that I will feel proud of the work I’ve done.
Let’s get back America to feeling strong and confident about this great nation.
