The Irritable Pundit
Hello all!
What's the matter?
You seem frustrated, irritable even. Why are you so angry, and what is with all the papers and forms? Goodness, you have chewed that pencil to a nub, and your eyes look one twitch away from a psychotic episode. There is only one possible explanation for your disheveled and somewhat frightening appearance.
It must be tax time again.
Put down that letter opener. PUT IT DOWN! Good, now slow your breathing a bit and sit. I am not here to make fun of you. I am as frustrated as you. There were so many promises made weren't there? Obama and the Democrats made thunderous deafening proclamations before the last election. "A tax cut for the middle class! (blah blah)... "90-something % wont pay a dime more! (blah blah)... Only people makeing more than 250K, 200K, 150K, 100K, 80K, 60K, will see an increase! (blah blah)...
It was, of course, all a pack of lies.
Now, at a much lower volume, we hear a different tune as endless trial balloons rise. Our Democrat controlled government now talks of raising income taxes across the board, while adding a VAT tax (no, they won't drop one for the other, get real). All of this, they claim, must be done to cover the massive debt we face. Of course they neglect to mention it was their own massive spending increases (and various payoffs and bribes for votes) that caused the debt problem in the first place. Instead they speak of creating new "fees" that magically do not count as taxes, or fines for healthcare that are also somehow not taxes (though they will be collected by the IRS). All this in an economy almost completely wrecked by their own misconduct.
I am tired of it, aren't you? Can we just stop for a moment? Can't we end the fiscal madness and lies?
Can't we all just get along?!!?!!
(Sorry, couldn't help it)
Never fear, there is an answer my friends. I, your host and guide to all that is irritating in life, would like to share a different way of collecting government graft. Sort of a modified and consolidated "flat tax" combined with a "government accountability act". Lets call it the "Specie Collection and Remuneration, Electronic Withholding act of Washington", or the "SCREW Washington act", for short.
The "SCREW Washington act" has 3 simple steps.
Step 1. Replace all federal taxes (yes, all of them) on personal income and corporate earnings with a flat tax at 20% (to start). Replace all state and local taxes (property taxes, sales taxes etc) with an additional 10% tax (split 70/30 state/local). And yes, your local/state/national figures will have the power to raise that number up or down as they can now. In either event, the cash will be taken directly from the employer or corp with the monies forwarded to the appropriate federal, state and local government controlled accounts. There are no exceptions, no thresholds, no deductions or tax shelters, no FICA, no nothing. If you make a dollar, you get 70 cents. Have a nice day.
Step 2. Without the need for formal filings we remove 99% of the IRS and state/local government accounting and collections agencies. Before each tax season, those few IRS agents left (in cooperation with state and local officials) will send to each individual tax-payer (and that is all of us now) a single statement showing:
a) The total money collected from their paycheck in the last year, and the total that will be credited to the various government bodies on April the 15th.
b) A list of the names of their Congressmen, Senator, and current President, Governor and state legislators, as well as local civic officials.
c) By the name of each official, a note of any increases or decreases in the relevant tax rates since April 15th of last year, and how they voted on each.
Step 3. Consolidate and move all national, state and local elections to occur on April 16th.
Thats it. Done.
What could be simpler? Lets get the word out my friends. It is tax time again, and we have a better way! Say it loud and say it proud, "SCREW Washington"!
See you next week!
