Too Many Laws

The Conservative Cowboy

I am going to preface this week’s post with a little update.  I have recently switched jobs and am trying to grow a business that has been neglected, the very reason that it was worth buying but that is not the point.  I have come to a few different truths about this country in my travels and most of them are pertaining to the laws surrounding CMV’s that is commercial motor vehicles in case you were wondering.

Now I am going to warn you this is where I start the rant.  It all started first when I was pulled over for having expired tags, I was a whooping three days past the grace period.  I was not very upset with this until the officer that pulled me over did not ask for a proof of insurance, or a driver license, he simply wanted to see the expired registration.  So I could have been an illegal, had a warrant out for my arrest, or just left the scene of a crime and he wouldn’t have known the difference.  You see the real reason I was pulled over was an easy $45.50 ticket.  There is a budget shortfall in this state so all of the officers statewide have been told to write as many tickets as possible, especially the ones with a higher fine associated with them.  I have seen many speed traps in school zones and construction zones the past year and that all stems from the fact that the fines are double in those areas.

This is a typical government run program, when you are running out of money you have to increase revenues because we cannot cut any costs.  I think that I have said that countless times in regards to the RTD.

I am not going to push that point too far because I was driving with expired tags and that is illegal, I will pay my ticket and own up.  The next piece is what really pushed me over the edge.  The day after my ticket we applied for new plates, however, we were informed that emissions were needed before the truck would be registered so we got a 60 temporary tag.  All is good right?  Wrong.  This week I was pulled over by a state trooper, for what having expired tags of course, the temp tag is in my front window because the truck I drive has no back window to place the tag.  So I show her that I have the temp tag and she starts asking 20 questions.  Have you registered the truck with this agency, have you paid for this inspection, you are in violation of this, this, and this.  I don’t know all the details I asked her if this would all be written because at this point I was about ready to park the truck take a cab home and just say to hell with doing business in this country.  I didn’t do that of course and I love this country too much to leave, but all of the hatred for the laws upon laws came out right there as she was doing an inspection of my CMV.  All the lights work, the tire tread is deep enough, washer fluid in the reservoir, and don’t forget the horn and back up beeper.

So after this trooper took an hour out of my day, in a job where time is money, literally, she gives me a full page outlining everything that she did along with my two violations and tells me that that piece of paper needs to be back to the state troopers office in 15 days or less or the fine is $1,000 per day up to $100,000.  You see because it is a CMV they can make the fines much higher.

Now for the best part I ask the state trooper what I need to do to get these problems fixed, and she doesn’t have a clue on where to start, apparently it is the responsibility of the business to know what laws and rules they have to conform to, but these agencies have the balls to enforce laws they don’t even understand.  When you go to the DMV to get anything done you talk to a person that has a fourth grade vocabulary and probably speak two different languages and neither one is English.  They can’t answer any of your questions because they were not trained to think!  The only reason that they were hired was because someone in HR tells the hiring manger I need 10 employees from this race and make sure we have at least 15 females on the staff and don’t forget they can’t all be white females either.  I would love to speak with someone that has a clue about the thousands upon thousands of laws that are in place and I would bet that the majority of them are not enforced.  I now realize why a lawyer needs twenty staff just to argue a case in a courtroom, he has to learn the law that pertains to the case because no one else does!

This is what happens when the government grows, and “provides” and regulates all of these services, there is not competition so the quality of those services become worse than if a union is controlling the workers, and that is bad see American cars from the late 80’s thru the 90’s.  I really don’t understand that with all of these committees’ in congress that work on these bills there is not a feasibility study, or committee that actually asks “Do we even have the infrastructure to enforce this law?”  A law on paper does nothing if it is not enforced, and that is what will happen with Healthcare, just like every other social program, no of them have worked.

Hope things are well, CC.
