Brushfire of Freedom
Ram Rants
Back in the 70’s we discovered the “Me” generation. These were the people who were focused on their own personal growth, their own gains, focused on themselves. “If it feels good, do it” was a common phrase of this generation. They gave us free love, gas lines, and bell-bottom jeans. Tie dye is also in that mix, as well as big afros and the peace sign, but I thought bell-bottoms was enough of a slam.
The “me” generation moved into the 80’s, giving us “greed is good”. To this day, the “me generation” (now running the country) is totally focused on themselves. They want more power, even if it means the destruction of the US economy. They ignore the people who they are supposed to represent because those people don’t really provide any benefit to them or their power. They will do what they think is right because, well, it’s really all about them.
How many times did Barry say “I” last week? I think I’ve made my point.
One thing the “me” generation has given us is a group of offspring that I am calling the “not me” generation. The primary criterion of the “not me” generation is that they refuse to take responsibility for anything. They are the perpetual victims, the people who are just caught up in things that happen, and not really accountable for any of the events that occur in their lives. They are powerless, down-trodden, and inflicted with life. Oh whoa is them.
You probably have met some of the “not me” generation. They claim to have nothing to do with their current situation because someone else created the circumstances. It’s not their fault. They can’t help themselves. If only something would change, then they could be successful, better, happy, whatever.
If you’re not certain about the “not me” generation, let’s take a look at the last election, shall we? The “not me’s” put Barry over the top after he promised to make their lives better. He would give them the things that they needed to free them from the evils that the Bush administration had foisted on them. He would give them a new kitchen. Don’t forget your new car and the buckets of cash from his “stash”. Obama would remove the things keeping the “not me’s” from becoming the successful people that they really want to be. If you want to find a “not me” you need only take a look at the young people who voted for Barry. They want more, but who will do the things necessary for their success? “Not me”.
The “not me’s” manage to absolve themselves of any responsibility for their own actions. Who caused that nasty burn on your leg? “Not me” says it was the evil restaurant that made the coffee too hot and put it in the cup. Please disregard the fact that I was talking on the cell phone, driving with my knee, eating a breakfast biscuit, and the cup spilled in my lap where I had it clinched between my legs. If the company had not made the coffee hot, it would not have burned. You can blame them, but “not me”.
Who is responsible for this car wreck that killed a man and his child? “Not me” says it was the bartender who served him one too many drinks, forcing him to drive home drunk for the third time, even though he had lost his license in the last DUI case. “Not me” is not accountable for the 10 drinks he bought and consumed in the hour preceding his departure from the bar. Besides, if the car had a device that would keep drunks from driving, he never would have been able to start the car. Maybe the judge should have ordered one of those things. So, it’s the bartender, the judge, and the car maker, but “not me” is not responsible.
Who is responsible for the economy today, including the exploding national debt? Well, President “Not Me” would say it must be the evil companies. They are too greedy. Or maybe the evil previous administration, please disregard that his party ruled Congress from 2006 on, and that he voted for every aspect of the spending that supposedly caused the debt. President "Not Me” would tell you that the coming tax increase is someone else’s fault, but not his. He promised he would never raise taxes. It was Congress, and they are also responsible for the health care bill you hate so much. Even though nearly $1.5 trillion in additional spending was signed into law by President “Not Me”, the sudden spike in the deficit has nothing to do with that spending. The fact is, the problems you have today are the responsibility of anyone that disagrees with President “Not Me”. It’s just not his fault.
You don’t have a job? You’re one of millions of Americans who lost their job since the beginning of 2009? You thought all of that stimulus spending was going to “save” your job. After all, that’s what you were told. Yet President “Not Me” told us that, if we could just pass his bills, then jobs would be saved, and unemployment would stay around 8%. Now, with the unemployment rate at 10% and climbing, President “Not Me” says he will help us again. He says his new plans for spending “freezes” and new taxes will fix it all, this time for sure. Just hang with him, push those nasty Republicans, make them pass his new budget. Do it in a hurry, or more people will suffer.
Do you believe him? Not me.
