Brushfire of Freedom
The Irritable Pundit
Hello all,
This is going to be very high level, but right now I have to get at least a base-level of understanding to some of my confused Tea Party type friends. You see, they just could not fathom why the Democrats keep pushing for Obama's health care takeover, specifically in the face of an overwhelmingly negative populace. Also, they couldn't understand why the rank and file democrats would support something that unquestionably would wreck the current system they themselves depend upon (and the economy of which they are part). I immediately saw the disconnect and agreed to make a post on the subject, in return for the group buying dinner at a nice steakhouse (bribes accepted, never effective). So, one medium-rare piece of carnivorous heaven later, let's ask the reverse of the supposed Kansas conundrum. Let's ask, "What's the matter with California?" and every other liberal enclave.
Let me be clear (heh heh, that never gets old) that this is an examination of real world effects, not mental leaning. I do not want to try to explain the psychological underpinnings of liberalism. Utopian vapidity makes my head hurt, and there are a thousand excellent pundits working on that every day. Instead let us instead focus on how liberals can be liberals, when the outcome of liberal policies are so destructive.
What do I mean by destructive? Well, since the great society we have spent trillions on poverty, yet poverty remains, and there are more "on the dole" every day. We have spent trillions on liberal education projects, yet Johnny can't read (though he is a world class two-thumb texting champ). So on and so on. Oddly enough, the monies for these pet projects are pulled from today's productive citizens, and spent in a manner to ensure tomorrow's productive cohort shrinks with each generation. If all that is true, why would anyone anywhere support liberal policies?
The surprising answer is, "Because they must, it is their nature".
Don't roll your eyes kids, that is not sarcastic or as simplistic as it appears. We recognize that liberalism in real-world application is a massive redistribution or resources, wealth, and forced outcomes. This can only exist, however, where there is a greater opposite system from which it can take and move those resources. Moving from group to group, co-opting processes and resources. Spreading ever outwards in a relentless expansion of self, leaving (by definition) less efficient systems in its wake. Think about it.
Liberalism is a virus.
Destructively predatory, liberalism attempts to spread at all costs, weakening its host. Most viruses are too well-adapted to kill their hosts completely (hemorrhagic fever et al, are evolutionary failures compared to the cold sore on your lip) but rather weaken them to that point allowing the greatest possible advantage of growth and survival. It should be emphasized though that any virus is (by its nature) as predatory as possible. The virus is adapted to a certain amount of loss, but it never stops pushing. Therefore, if a previous weakness exists, the host can become infected too fast or too systemically and sicken to the point of death. Greater organisms expect a certain amount of single celled predation and fight them off on a consistent basis. The same is true of our economy and political union. The body politic produces a counter, the antibodies that point out the invader and allow the body to concentrate its defenses -- conservatives. But the defense must be organized to be effective against the invaders.
Lets look closer at these invaders. First lets break down "The Liberal" as there isn't a single archetype, but three. Comprised of those who are not afraid of liberalism's predation, those who control its predation, and those who get to dine on the scraps. They are (respectively):
1) The Privileged
2) The Powerful
3) The Peons
However, within each archetype, there are higher and lower strata/subspecies.
1)The Privileged
i. The Wealthy Elite
ii. The Academic
2) The Powerful
i. The Political Elite
ii. The Organizers
3) The Peons
i. The Ideologue
ii. The Poor
Lets pull out the microscope shall we?
First, the Privileged:
The "Wealthy Elite" are the children of fortune. Actors and activists, spoiled and superfluous, they exist and thrive on the wealth created by others or a wild surplus they themselves have found. They stop producing and concentrate on consumption, and having little else to do, they concentrate on the ephemeral. Obama's plans for healthcare may be destructive, but what do they care? Their resources ensure they will never have to deal with its more pernicious effects. Within their bubble of privilege (with grand dreams of noblesse oblige) they can "tsk tsk" at their lessors in complete safety. A Kennedy facing a rape trial, Michael Moore spinning his newest yarn, or the celluloid musings of Sean Justin Penn all have in common that none of them will ever have to touch the problems or consequences of those for whom they claim to speak.
The Academic meanwhile, are those protected by the ivory towers of tenure. Ignorance of the real world effects of their decisions have allowed for the creation of thought processes and positions ever further removed from reality. This is why we today have such sensational constructs as a "Professor of Womyn's [sic] Victimology". From their seats of great learning, they cast aspersion on the hoi polloi, like Zeus on Olympus passing electrical judgment upon mortals. Academia subsists on massive grants that fund their idiocy in perpetuity, so the world of academia is separate from our concerns in all ways.
Second, the Powerful:
The Political Elite reach from bottom to top, from the local Democratic party leader to the Speaker of the house. They focus and drive the movement forward, determining the next course of attack. Within their hallowed halls they have sanctuary from the fallout of their decisions. Have you ever examined the lifelong, free and staggeringly complete healthcare that the 535 members of Congress receive? They could care less about the inefficiencies of the new system as (by law) it will not apply to them.
Just a rung below, the Organizers are SEIU, ACORN, United Auto Workers, employees of the bureaucracy, et al... They are the divider of spoils acquired by the Political Elite whom they support at all costs. They do this as the Political Elite ensure they also do not face the consequences of their own actions. Have you destroyed the American auto sector? Here, take ownership of what is left. Will the new healthcare taxes crush you because of the cadillac health plan you forced your company to give (and which was the proximate cause of its death)? No problem, let me exempt you specifically. And do not worry about competing in the real world, you have a job for life so long as you support us!
Lastly, the Peons:
The Ideologue is another word for the "devoted follower". For some this is the "Yellow Dog Democrat" or true party loyalists. For others it is the "true believer". Those who religiously follow and have faith in the Democrat leadership. These are the women fainting at Obama rallies during the campaign. These are the men chanting "Yes we can!" who are inexplicably unable to to say why they couldn't previously. Some may call them "as mind numbingly dense as my grandmother's fruitcake" but I simply call them "Oblivious". You have seen their letters to the editor, wherein they complain that the budget deficits are all Bush's fault, even though Obama created more debt in one year than Bush did in eight. Do not even try to argue, the truth does not matter. Liberalism is their god, the left's leaders are their priests, and they are simply unable to perceive the negative aftereffects of democratic policies through the fog of religious fervor.
A subset of the Peons are the Poor. They are those who have stopped trying and simply wait for their handout like good followers. Are you in New Orleans, still unemployed, receiving a monthly allowance and in a free trailer almost 4 years after Katrina hit? Are you standing by the roadside every election holding up political signs for whomever the Democrat party is pushing? If so, you are who I am talking about. Of course, the common stereotype is that of welfare recipients, unmarried in a HUD home, a check for each child, on disability for a dubious back injury, with food purchased by food stamps (provided by credit card now to lessen any lingering shame), and driving a Cadillac. That stereotype is a shameful lie. They do not all drive Cadillacs.
In each case, we see that the Liberal is surrounded by a bubble of one type or the other, protecting them from the consequences of their actions. And so dear friends, liberals work against the best interests of the greater union, for the same reason the virus works against the best interests of the greater organism.
1) They receive benefits by the detriment of the host, and
2) they are not subject to their own ill effects.
We however are subject to the ill effects of liberalism, and we need 5 mils per kg of Reaganomics. STAT!
See you next week!
