 Brushfire of Freedom

Ram Rants

My friends, you are probably as frustrated as I when it comes to the economic policies of the current administration.  Hell, there are people in the administration that are frustrated with the policies of the administration.  You may also be frustrated because you’ve spent some time trying to explain some rather simple facts to your Liberal friends, but to no avail.  With that in mind, I will attempt in these and future scribblings to outline some of the basic flaws in Obama’s policies.

Yes, there are many, but I have a lot of room.  Let’s not be discouraged by the distance of the journey, but let us instead be prepared to take the first step.  We live but once, so let not the time pass us without stopping to smell the roses.  You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make a silk purse out of a pig in a poke.

But I digress.

Today’s lesson; How Obama’s Policies are Leading to Socialism and Eventually Communism.

Harsh words there, Ramarious.  Are you certain?

In a word, yes.  Shall we begin or would you prefer I continue this pointless dialogue with myself?  I thought so.

First, let me start by saying that I am not trying to point out the evils of Socialism.  If you are one of those that believe that Socialism will be the best thing to happen to this country since Woodstock, then this little exercise will most likely make your day.  You will of course need to ignore the part that points out that Socialism as a form of government is a proven failure.  Maybe THIS time we’ll get it right, right?

Today we will focus on the tax policies as part of Obama’s overall economic plan.  To be clear, I do not consider Obama and his minions to be typical “tax and spend” Democrats.  That would be giving them too much credit.  They are more like, “spend, spend, spend, TAX” Democrats. Obama’s initial ten months have seen our national debt grow to record levels and, if it remains on its current trend, we will see the debt exceed our GDP (Gross Domestic Product for those who went to Berkley) by 2011.  That’s about 15 months away.  Barry and the bunch have been focused on spending since they walked in to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.  It is all part of the plan.

With the spending step nearly complete (Obamacare will be the capstone), Barry will turn his attention to the deficit he has created.  That will be the next crisis.  He is already laying the groundwork, with tax increases included in the current Senate Health Care bill that will be instituted upon signature of the bill.  You should disregard the fact that Americans will not see any benefit from this bill until 2013, we will in fact begin paying for Obamacare immediately.  This tax increase will hit “the producers” most heavily.  For the purpose of our discussion, “the producers” are the people in this country who work and pay taxes.

Let me pause and add some clarity.  Having taxes withheld from your paycheck is not the same as paying taxes.  When you file your 1040EZ in April and you receive all of your withholdings back in a refund, you are not paying taxes.  You have simply let Barry and the bunch earn interest on your money for about a year.  Some who file their tax returns will receive a larger refund than what was withheld by Barry.  That again is not paying taxes.  Paying taxes means you give money to the government (they do not earn it) and they keep most or all of it and use it however they choose.  The producers are the people who power the engine of our economy and, because of our tax structure, our government.

You should also know that our tax structure is indexed to the amount a person earns.  The more you earn, the larger percentage you pay as you move up through the indexes.  So not only do you pay an increased amount, you pay a larger percentage of your income into the tax pool each time you move up the index.  This has the effect of punishing those who succeed.  A note, people in general do not like to work harder and receive less pay.  That’s just the way we are wired.  So, the producers will slow (or stop) their production to prevent movement up into the next index level and thus be forced to pay higher taxes.

So the next step in the process is for Obama to raise taxes.  This is step two of his plan, and he will say the reason is is necessary it to reduce the deficit.  But raising taxes will have the opposite effect, as the people who are tired of doing more work for less take-home pay will quit their jobs and head for the expanding government trough.  Welfare roles will increase and combined with decreasing productivity, our deficit will rise still more.  The increased deficit will of course require another tax increase, and the snowball begins.

As the producers leave the workforce for the “free ride” of government welfare, the  industries that are the backbone of our economy will begin to struggle and falter.  As he has already done with the automakers, banks, and some insurance, Obama will come to the rescue, “bailing out” the failing industries and basically taking over their operations.  At this point the “service” part of Obama’s plan becomes evident, as people are asked to “volunteer” to work in these industries to get them back on their feet.

There will come a time when those who simply refuse to be on welfare, but also do not want to pay 73% of their income into the government bucket, will leave for greener pastures.  There is a historical precedent for this.  Think of all the British musicians who moved to the US to avoid the excessive UK tax structure.  When the producers either leave the country or join the welfare line, money for the government bucket will disappear.  This will end “welfare” as a free payout.   You might say at this point that Atlas has shrugged.

Finally, the “service” projects will morph in to required government service, then eventually to government jobs.  You will earn no pay, but instead you will receive the basics that you need for existence.  The government service project will be the price for your survival.  After all, there will be no money to provide welfare, but we will still need to have homes built, cars washed, toilets cleaned, and all that.  So Americans will be tasked with those jobs as “service” and in return you will receive some form of food coupon, housing voucher, etc. From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.  If you have the skills, you may be allowed to get an education, but it may be in the interest of “the state” for you to take a job as a welder, or perhaps a “sanitation engineer”.  There will still be a few who have riches, but they will be mostly the powerful Czars and a few select athletes and artists who will perform for the amusement of our dear leaders.

You will notice that this is pure Communism.  Congratulations, you have progressed down the slippery slope from freedom to slavery, all through the punitive tax policies of Barry and his bunch.  This is not inevitable, but it is in evidence in the process that is currently in progress.  If he is allowed to continue, America will no longer be a nation of free people, but a nation of enslaved government workers, waiting in lines reminiscent of the failed Soviet Union.

You may also notice that several times I referred to “you” when I mentioned working in government service and receiving food vouchers.  It is simple, my friends, I am a producer.  I am a lover of liberty and freedom, and my bags are packed, just in case.
