Health Care is Not About Them

 Brushfire of Freedom

Ram Rants

September is upon us and with it comes the return of our beloved Representatives and Senators to their happy little enclaves in the secure confines of Congress.

Ah, bliss.  No more Town Halls, no more yelling, no protest signs or silly little common people crying about their freedom.  Back to the real business of government, spending money and gaining power.

Hey, life can be simple, can’t it?

The recently elected King of America and his loyal aristocrats have deigned to walk among us for the past month and share their brilliant insight into matters too complex for even individuals of their high intellect to grasp.  Yet we have been assured that this is all about “us” and not about “them”.  Health Care reform, or insurance reform, or whatever it’s called this week, is about helping us, the people of this great nation.  It’s about all of us doing what is “morally” right and just.  There are some, a small percentage true but still, that can not afford the basic health care that so many greedy rich take for granted.  Please ignore the fact that They get to keep Their health care plans.  This is not about Them.

Our Beloved King has even said as much.  “This is not about me...” he intoned, in a voice so melodic even stones wept.  Ok, I’ll bite.  If it’s not about you...

Why is is that many in your party believe a failure to pass this reform bill will be the end of your presidency?  If this is not about you, why is your success so closely tied to this one government program?  Why is it that members of your party have been quoted saying that not passing health care this year would be, “...the worst thing we can do for the Democrats...”.  It seems a bit odd that so many references link the success of HR3200 directly to you, yet this has nothing to do with you.

But, I digress.

The Nobles of the Beltway have promised to be so incredibly gracious as to give us back the money that they took from us, but only in such a way that they can maintain control.  After all, what would we know about how to spend our money?  According to these brilliant minds, even those that have the means often fail to purchase health care.  You should have health insurance, whether you want it, or need it, or not.  The High-Born of our great nation have deemed it so, and we would be remiss not to follow their instruction.  Health Care for all Americans, legal or illegal, is the principled thing to do.

In this case, "principle" is defined as using dollars from every taxpayer and paying for abortions across the country and around the globe.  Oh, health care reform won’t start that, just cement it in the American fabric.  You already pay for abortions in Mexico, and in the US, through funding of Planned Parenthood.  So even if you disagree with the morality of abortions, you’re paying for them.  And why is this the case?  Because the party in power receives massive support from the “baby killer” lobby and they need that support to stay in power.  So even though this is not about them, it’s actually all about them.  If it were not about them, there would be more than one bill in discussion.  If it were not about them, they would welcome the debates in the town halls and open forums.  If it were not about them, they would not reject other ideas outright, even though they have no idea what is in their proposal.

If this were not about Barry, Harry, Nancy, and friends, they would not label those who disagree with them as “racist” and “fascists”.  They would not call dissenters an “angry mob” and “haters”.  They would not have a need to “hit back twice as hard” because they would be interested in what we have to say.  They would try to address our concerns with considered responses, not force us out of meetings because we disagree with their ideas.  They would strive to extend the discourse to ensure that all voices are heard, all ideas are considered, and a valuable solution is devised.  If it were not about them, they would show compassion for all Americans, not just a select group of victims that can be used for their purpose then cast aside when they attain their goal.  If this were not about them, they would listen, they would learn, they would read, they would discuss, dissect, and delve into the multiple potential solutions offered, not rush to pass a single piece of legislation by August (FAIL).  If this were about us, they would descend from their lofty perches and become the public servants that were elected by the people of this nation.

But again, I digress.

I so hope that the Obama family visits us here in Colorado again soon.  Michelle is such a Goddess, and she has such an excellent eye for fashion...but this is not about them.
