The Conservative Cowboy

Just about everyone on the Right side of the political spectrum is wincing every time BHO opens his mouth because they know that what comes out of his mouth will lead to increased government control, greater government spending, higher taxes, and more laws and regulations.  Well I personally have come to the conclusion that a law is only a law until the government starts to enforce that law.  I know what you might be thinking we cannot let the liberals sign all of these bills into law.  That may be true but bear with me for a second while I provide an example to support my claims.

In 1997 Bill Clinton, you remember him riding high on everything that Reagan implemented with his supply side economics, signed a bill into law to help cut Medicare spending over the next ten years, saving the Federal Government $400 billion.  The bill went something like this, Medicare reimbursements to doctors was directly tied to the increase in overall GDP for the country.  In other words their Medicare spending could not rise at a greater percentage than our overall GDP.  If spending did increase at a greater percentage than Congress would cut the rates the next year in order to make up the difference.  They called this the Sustainable Growth Rate Factor or SGR for short.  Needless to say Congress buckled, last year there was to be a 10.1% cut in Medicare reimbursements, well congress actually raised the reimbursement rate.

It seems very clear to me that our Congress and other elected officials do not actually think of the ramifications, and real world applications of all of these bills.  You see doctors get to chose whether or not they will accept Medicare patients.  Well if you continually cut the reimbursement rate than the number of doctors that will treat Medicare patients will shrink.  Healthcare just like every other industry in our country is run by the market, and the market will demand a certain price for a good or service.  When the government sets a price ceiling then the market cannot work and one of the two curves will change.  In the case of Medicare the demand will not change, so supply must fluctuate to meet the new price set by the government, the supply will have to decrease.

You see that the government signed a bill into law to cut spending on Medicare but enforcing that law was in reality impossible because the ramifications were and continue to be too high of a cost than the money the government would save.  You would have far less doctors treating Medicare patients and thus more Americans would not get the treatment they need.  Thus a law must be enforceable to actually be implemented.

So BHO go ahead and sign your healthcare reform bills, and your carbon cap programs, and your gun control measures and you higher taxes.  In reality when the government goes to enforce these unjust laws the people of this country will stand up and fight against them.  You can regulate a market as much as you want, and if that regulation is good for the marketplace then that market will thrive.  I cannot think of any example where increased government regulation actually helped a market but that is not important.  If the regulations cause the market to fail then the market will ultimately fight back against that regulation.  In the case of the SGR the government actually realized that if they enforced these cuts they would have a mass of seniors, who couldn’t see a doctor, protesting in Washington so they buckled and refused to enforce the law.

So sign all of your bills Barack and see what happens when the people of this country refuse to let the Government control their lives.  Maybe these unjust laws will cause the same people that drank the Kool-Aid and voted for Socialism to wake up.  Yes I am giving those people more credit than they deserve but it is my hope that deep down those people can come back to reality and realize that these laws will open the drain that this country is circling.
