Sacrifice v. Sacrifice

Voice of Adams

Sacrifice is defined as the act of giving up something of value for the sake of something else.  In most cases, the “something else” is considered to be of greater value than the item sacrificed.  We’ve heard quite a bit about sacrifice from B. Hussein during the past several weeks.  There is a difference in the requests of BHO and his administration, and that difference can be seen not in the root definition of sacrifice, but in the context and usage of the word.

So let’s begin at the beginning.  An excellent example of someone sacrificing can be seen in the heroic acts of out military.  Many men and women have sacrificed aspects of their lives for this nation, as when a National Guard member leaves their “day job” and heads back to Iraq.  They give up opportunities in their job (a certain value) for something they feel has greater value, their country.  They sacrifice career opportunities for their countries, personal growth for the greater national good.  There are other examples, including limbs and even lives, that are sacrificed by members of our military so that those in this nation can have life, liberty, and can continue their pursuit of happiness.

These sacrifices are made voluntarily.  The people who give up their lives, limbs, and careers in service of this nation do so in an all-volunteer force, and they often volunteer or select the duty and function that puts them in harms way.  They choose to dive on the grenade and save their comrades, sacrificing their own lives for the lives of others in their platoon or troop.  They give of themselves, freely, as they have chosen, to provide for a greater good, a higher value.

In recent days, B. Hussein has said that Americans will have to sacrifice for the future of the nation.  They will lose jobs, lose their livelihood, and even lose their homes so that future generations can have more.  He has declared that you will sacrifice, that those workers will lose their jobs.  B. Hussein has told us what we will do to ensure the success of future generations.  It’s for our children and grand children.  We must sacrifice.

Herein lies the difference.  When a person chooses to make a sacrifice, then they are making a sacrifice.  They give freely of themselves for a greater future benefit, or for the benefit of others (the most noble sacrifice).  When someone is told they MUST sacrifice, they are being MADE a sacrifice.  There is a difference in sacrificing, and being sacrificed.  The men and women in our military make sacrifices every day.  B. Hussein wants to make the men and women in the auto industry into sacrifices for his objectives.    They will be sacrificed so that B. Hussein can advance his Socialist agenda.  They will be sacrificed so that he can re-make the US Economy, and the auto industry.  They will be sacrificed so that “the Earth can be saved”.

Then of course there is the issue regarding the real sacrifice itself.  In the majority of action being considered around the auto maker debacle, there are provisions to ensure that union workers who get laid off will get a new job.  Or they will be paid not to work.  Or they will be trained to get a new career.  All at taxpayer expense.  So really, how much will the sacrifice?

This is the danger of the rhetoric that B. Hussein is using.  By using the word “sacrifice”, he appears to be defining a noble act, the noblest as it is a sacrifice for the benefit of others.  He equates the act of losing your job to the act of giving your life for your country.  Yet those who will lose the jobs are not quitting their jobs so that others may benefit.  They will be fired, laid off, down-sized, or early retired.  They will be sacrificed, and there will be nothing of greater value for anyone except the person performing the sacrifice, B. Hussein.

So keep this in mind the next time this administration talks about “sacrifice”.  If you choose to quit your job so that B. Hussein can manage his personal auto companies the way he chooses, then you have sacrificed and there is honor in your decision.  If however you lose your job because of B. Hussein’s policies, then you are nothing more than a sacrifice to the Socialist policies of a power-hungry President.  You are a lamb being lead to slaughter, and there is no honor in that.
