Brushfire of Freedom
Voice of Adams
This particular blog has been dedicated to providing a voice of liberty in the spirit of Samuel Adams (the patriot, not the beer). The focus, as it is with the Brushfire organization in general, is to educate, to stimulate conversation and debate, and to ensure that the electorate in 2010 and beyond has a clear understanding of the value of freedom, and the cost of its loss. The Voice of Adams blog has been and remains open to anyone who has a desire to speak their mind in support of liberty.
This particular posting then will seem a bit out of focus in regard to those established principles. This is a blog about something that is not our right, that robs us of liberty, and strangles our freedom. This is about the Holy Grail of liberal projects, universal health care.
As liberal strategies go, universal health care is pretty typical. First, create a crisis. According to the State Run Media (read New York Times), there are somewhere between two and 200 billion people in the US without health insurance, including women, children, and minorities. It is clear that if we don’t provide health insurance for all of them, they will die within a week. This crisis must be addressed, and only the full power and might of the US government can save us from certain disaster, the likes not seen since the (insert favorite disaster here) of (pick a year, accuracy not required). We as Americans can not stand idly by as our fellow citizens (legal and otherwise) suffer under this terrible burden.
So, that is the crisis. Scary, is it not? How can a benevolent government, lead by the Savior in Chief B. Hussein Obama, allow so many people, especially the women, children, minorities, etc. suffer for so long? They must act, and act now. And while we’re at it, let’s ensure we don’t read the legislation, since that worked so well for us last time.
Now a slight dose of reality. First of all, there are people who do not have health insurance because they have chosen not to get it. So, forcing universal health care on them forces them to have something that they do not want. Yes, it is possible in this country to get health care without getting health care insurance. We have free clinics, we have health fairs, and if you go to an emergency room, the hospital is required to provide health care for your injuries with no regard to your ability to pay. So lack of health care insurance does not equal lack of health care. Thus, some people chose not to pay for the insurance, and use the provided systems when necessary.
Second, health care is not a right.
Third, the US health care system is the best in the world. Look north to Canada. The socialized medicine there drives people across the border to the US for service. People leave the UK and come to the US to get better health care. Universal health care has, like the Socialism it is based in, failed every time it has been tried. Even Michael Moore, were he an even remotely honest person, would have to testify that the health care “utopia” that is Cuba is in fact an absolute failure. But we need look no further than Hawaii to see the failure of socialized medicine.
So why is there a need to “fix” health care? Well, first it gives the US government control or influence over 1/7 of the US economy. Having viewed their lust for power regarding housing and financials, it is clear they still desire more. Second, a good deal of the AIG money has dried up, so why not replenish the supply with some additional government cash, forced into the system by new laws and regulations. That should help the Dems like Dodd, Frank, and Obama keep their election coffers full. Next, let’s consider the new and exciting legal opportunities for the trial lawyers that have gotten fat off the malpractice system. Now they can file suit against the government, and rake in even more money, a certain percentage to be delivered to their benefactors back in D.C. Finally, don’t forget all of the businesses that will save money because they no longer have to supply health care as an employee benefit. A portion of that money can also be routed to their fine friends in Washington, to ensure the continued beneficence of the Leftist Looneys.
Who gets to pay for all of this? Why the American tax payer. You will lose your excellent, private health care and be forced into five-hour waiting lists for cold medicine. You can enjoy the pleasure of “the lowest bidder” taking on your heart surgery with tools manufactured by the same people who gave us Fannie and Freddie and $50,000 toilet seats. You will have the absolute pleasure of having to deal with the same bureaucracy that drives the DMV, but you will be forced to go because you need treatment for your cancer. Oh joy.
And don’t forget the greatest cost. Today, some of the brightest minds in the medical field come to this country to study and improve their art. They live and work in our hospitals and medical facilities. Today, the best and brightest in health care work in the best health care system in the world because they are free to practice their trade, charge their fees, and pay off their student loans and malpractice insurance fees in the greatest country in the world. Once that freedom is gone, don’t expect these brilliant minds to stay in the US. Don’t expect them to work for a government that will limit their pay, control their practice, and manage their every prescription. They are not the lowest bidders. They are the best and brightest, and they will leave this nation if we go to a socialized system. This will be the greatest loss to the United States. We will lose the brightest minds in medicine. It may be a good idea to find out where they are going.
