Guest Blog - Need to Get it Off My Chest

You know, watching the tea parties today, I found myself really asking one question…and it relates to my 2-1/2 year old daughter..are WE (all of us Americans) really headed in the right direction?  Was (is) the “change” really worth it?  Is change about a 10 trillion dollar “stimulus”, that will saddle you and I with $800 Billion in interest per year in just the next couple years?  Are my taxes high enough? (not according to my already bloated government – because I’m in the very wealthy 50% that support 100% of tax burden, hell, I might just be in the uber-wealthy making enough to support 75% of the taxes)..is my government spending money on things that really make you and I safer, make us more prosperous, improve our economy?  Should we thank “dirty” Harry Reid and “San-Fran” Nancy Pelosi or look forward to 2010 to get rid of what ails us?  I feel we need some checks and balances.  I thought we all were pissed about Bush’s spending but this is on a scale never seen before.  Where’s the national outrage?  Why do I feel that I’m part of an underground movement?

I remodel homes.  I meet a lot of people every week, I work with folks that come from European countries.  They have seen this before (from Russia/Ukraine to Holland), and are nervous.

But the republican party is totally impotent at the moment.  40% of pork in the “stimulus bill” is theirs, and no sign of strong resistance on capitol hill.  Michael Steele (chair of RNC) was rejected to speak at the Chicago Tea party since the movement is about American citizens speaking out to tell their gov’t how to spend “their” money $$,  and not the opposite.

I wasn’t sure what the hub-bub was all about over the last several weeks about these non-violent protests.  But I am absolutely proud of our country, a “representative” democracy founded and supported by Americans, brought together by common purpose and common pride of a country that welcomes all, provides equal opportunity to all, and is of the people, by the people and for the people.  I feel disappointed that I didn’t participate today.

Yet our main media outlets cover it as “fringe”, and right-wing kooks, FOX stuff….and that scares me (yes this specifically means you NBC, CNN, etc). Because I must be a wacky right wing nut job.  I thought I was a hard working American, proud as hell about our country, doing well, and in charge of my life, providing for my daughter, and family, and country.  I served in the US Army, and maybe had some differing opinions on the state of the country under president Clinton with regard for national security..not so much the economy, although realistically, taxes weren’t as big a deal considering in the 1990’s, a 70% tax on every dollar I earned wasn’t as big a deal.  I was in college, and in the army, but this is very different, this feels wrong.

I’ll sign off with the message I saw on one sign I saw from a tea party on Atlanta – “Don’t spread my wealth, spread my work ethic.”  Isn’t that what our country is all about?  Isn’t that why we are the best in the world?

I am not guilty that I live in the best country in the world (like my president).

Great article.  You put to pen the words I hear on a daily basis now.

As a side note, you didn't mean, “representative” democracy" right?  You meant representative republic?  I figured it was just a typo!

Again, great job!
