Taxing My Patience

What an interesting few weeks.  We learn that New York has become the tax capitol of the world.  It looks like several states are creating new “fees” (taxes) on everything from streetlights to cellphones.  We are being taxed on our income, our usage, our driving, and even more on our “sins” (see tobacco tax increase).  The more things we find to do, the more the government finds ways to tax.  It is time to stop.

The founders of this nation revolted against, among other things, taxation without representation.  It was the tyrannical tax practices of King George that brought about the Boston Tea Party, and marked the beginning of the end of British reign in the Colonies.  We find ourselves in a similar position, where those who make the laws regarding our taxes are not bound by those laws, or ignore them completely.  We find our representatives do not represent our views in our House of Representatives, ignoring our demands to reduce the tax burden (it has already been increased), and that our money be spent wisely and not on funding illegal behaviors or unconstitutional actions.  We are being taxed by those who refuse to present our views, and who have been in office far too long to be considered “public servants”.

Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.  The people we have hired (elected) to represent us have become corrupted by decades of power.  Many of the Senators and Representatives currently “serving” this nation are nothing more than career politicians, with 30+ years in office.  They no longer listen to the voices of their “constituents”, unless those voices echo their desires for more power.  And so they tax, and tax some more.  They want to increase income taxes on our top producers.  They want to tax the benefits of those who pay for their own healthcare.  They want to increase taxes on gasoline so that the cost of fuel will be so high we will be forced to drive the cars they want the auto makers to build.  Then they want to track the number of miles we drive so they can tax our travel.  If you look just at your car, you are taxed on its purchase, taxed for the license plate, taxed each time you put gas in the car, taxed when you purchase a car wash, taxed if you travel a toll road (tax road), taxed for your license to actually drive the vehicle, and taxed on any accessory, maintenance,or repair you do to the vehicle.  Some of you are even taxed on the exhaust.  That is seven potential taxes on one item, and we’ve not even started on your house.

The excessive debt created by this administration will encourage them to raise taxes yet again.  Even if they take no action, the Bush tax cuts (for everyone, not just the rich) will sunset in 2010, effectively raising our taxes on top of the increases the Democrats have already initiated.  History shows, and Democrats have proven, that taxing a thing reduces its use, and results in a reduction of tax revenue.  This fact is on full display in New York, where the governor is raising taxes on “the rich” and thus driving “the rich” out of New York, reducing the tax revenue for New York.  So, if you’re looking at the full picture, you will notice an increase in spending (an insane increase) and a reduction in tax revenue due to the increased taxes.  That means even greater debt placed on the shoulders of our children and grand-children.  But wait, the government sees the potential issue and is taking steps to mitigate the risk.  They want to lay off state employees, further reducing the productive tax base and increasing demand on the welfare system.  Now you have more consumers and even fewer producers, a greater deficit, and so they increase taxes, do more lay offs, thus reducing the tax revenue, reducing the tax base increasing the demand on the system, so they...

It has been said that spending your way out of debt is like drinking your way out of being drunk.  Democrats know that increased taxes reduce usage, that is why they want to increase taxes on gasoline.  They have been increasing their spending to justify increased taxes, creating more dependents on the government, and increasing their power.  They are ignoring the voices of those they are supposed to represent, and pushing this nation away from its foundations and further toward Socialism.  They are using taxes as the hammer, and spending as the anvil, and they are “reshaping” this country in their image, ignoring the framework, and ignoring the voice of the people.  We must stop the taxes, we must prevent further taxation, and we must change the representation of the people so that those in power are “We the people” not the people’s representatives.  They tax our conversation (cellphones), and tax our water, land, and means of survival.  They are taxing our patience, and it is time for the taxing to stop.
