And?

Brushfire of Freedom

Ram Rants

As of this writing, late in the evening on Tuesday, it appears Mitt Romney, otherwise known as “Obama Lite” has taken the primary in the state of Florida.

And?

Romney finally won a primary that was not rigged for his victory.  Let’s face it, anything in New England should be an easy victory for Romney because he is a New England liberal.  You wouldn’t expect anyone without his credentials to win anything north of Virginia.  Counting New Hampshire for Romney is like counting Pennsylvania for Santorum.  It’s his home turf.  A loss for Romney in New Hampshire would be far more telling than a victory.  If you want a real news story, one that has been steadfastly avoided by the media, you should look at Romney’s loss in South Carolina.  He was projected to win by more than 10%.  Oops.

So let’s look at where we are today.  Romney has won two states, although one is admittedly larger than many other states.  Gingrich has a surprise win in SC, and Santorum has a win.  There have been four contests, we have Romney with two wins, Gingrich with one, Santorum with one.

Doing the math here, carry the one...

And?

Agreed, Romney has a big win in Florida, but is that any reason to call the race today?  Gingrich has the support of the entire Tea Party.  You know, the gang that put the GOP into the majority in the US House and almost took the Senate?  Yeah, those guys.  Romney does not have a lot of Tea Party support, and he’s not likely to get any.  His “Romneycare” is so close to “Obamacare” that no one with any understanding of the US Constitution wants to spend any time in Massachusetts. In other words, nearly every true Conservative.

Let’s be clear.  If Romney is selected there is a good chance that Obama will win the 2012 Presidential election.  There is little in the Romney bucket that will entice the true conservative.  The media knows this, that’s why they are pushing Romney so hard in every state and in every primary.  If on the outside chance Romney were to beat Obama, it is unlikely he will be able to successfully repeal the Obamacare law.  Why?  Because it is so much like Romneycare.  Both laws were pretty much written by the same people.  Why would they be any different?

This is exactly what the media is hoping for.  In Chess, this is called a “fork”. No matter which move the opponent makes, the player will get at least one piece.  The liberals are pushing for Romney as the GOP candidate.  This will give them the fork.  They believe on one hand that they have the best chance of beating Romney.  That’s one piece.  But, on the off chance Romney beats Obama, they get to keep their precious Obamacare, which is the other piece.

And?

And that is the real goal.  By putting us all under the control of the government via the control of our health care, the Liberals are playing for one final win.  No, they don’t have to win the 2012 election.  All they need to do is get the majority of Americans chained to some government entitlement, like Obamacare.  Once that happens, we will all be forced to vote the liberal ticket to ensure our survival.  Liberals are not necessarily playing to win an election, they are playing to win total control.  They are playing to win the game.

And?

Once Liberals win, you can say good bye to this great experiment that is the United States of America.  You can scoff all you want, but this is how many nations have fallen.  History teaches that the encroachment of government has eventually destroyed the governed.  There is nothing about the current efforts by Liberals to make us believe any different.  Once they have complete control, they will not surrender power.  Our future as a nation rests on our hope of electing a Conservative that is willing to to fight the Liberals and drive back their hands from the wheels of power.

And?

That is up to you to decide.

Pitiful Polling

by Ramarious 25. January 2012 05:00

Brushfire of Freedom

Ram Rants

Well things have certainly changed in the race for the GOP nomination.  Just a few weeks ago the discussion was around Romney’s plan to wrap up the nomination in Florida.  Our boy Mitt was counting his chickens, his eggs, and his invites to the convention.  The pollsters, brilliant all, had him 10 points or more up in South Carolina.

Then they voted.

This should be a lesson not only for those of you who are following the GOP primaries, but also all those who are following the preliminary polls around Obama.  Almost all say Obama will beat Romney, or Newt, or whomever the GOP runs.  Keep in mind those same pollsters had Carter beating Reagan.

Let’s face it, folks, the media polls for one reason only.  No, it’s not to gain insight into the views of the public at a given point in time.  That would be the theoretical reason for polling, not the media reason for polling.  The media polls so that they can either state their opinion disguised as public opinion or to drive public opinion toward their opinion.

It’s not hard to prove this fact.  First, look at the continued failures of all of these polls.  Gore beat Bush in Florida, remember?  John Kerry had Bush beat in 2004.  Obama was trailing Hillary for the first part of the Democrat primaries in 2008.  Race, after race, after race, the early polls have all been dead wrong when it came to the actual election.  Now, as the media attempts to select the GOP nominee most likely to lose to Obama, the polls conducted show the exact opposite of what the public is thinking.  South Carolina was perfect proof.  The polls had Romney leading by 10 points going into the primary election.  That night, Newt won by 13 points overall.  So, for those who went to Berkley, that’s a 23 point difference between the pollster’s guess and the actual results.  That’s a fairly significant difference, even for people in the media.  To put it in context, a 23 point difference in the recent poll regarding Obama and Newt would have Newt winning the general election 72% to 28%.  That’s nearly two thirds of the electorate voting for Newt.

Want more proof?  True scientific polling is truly random.  To poll registered US voters, you would need to randomly select a random sample of people from across the US.  Truly scientific polling also gathers some basic demographic information then a few key questions on the subject under investigation.  The media polls take neither of these steps to ensure limited bias.  Evidence provided in past polls indicates the “random” sample of voters can be stacked as much as 2-1 in favor of Democrats.  Other demographic categories often provide additional bias in the process, and further expand the margin of error.  It’s through these types of invalid processes in collecting the data that a survey, or poll, can be off by 23 points.  That type of error is not due to sample size, or even bad questions.  That type of error requires a concerted effort.

Poorly worded questions can also impact the results of a poll. Answer these two questions;

  1. If the election were held today, would you vote for Obama or Gingrich?
  2. If the election were held today, would you vote for the enlightened savior of our generation Obama, or the adulterous, rich, lying, temperamental white guy, Gingrich?

Ok, so they’re not quite that bad.  What pollsters will do is ask a few unnecessary questions prior to the voting question to prep the subject.  Questions around the subjects opinion of recent comments by Newt’s ex-wife, or Newt’s involvement with Fannie Mae, or other questions that put doubt in the mind of the subject before the “who would you vote for” question is asked.  That type of polling tends to skew perspective, and creates invalid results that are 23 points off the final results.

So why does the media enjoy being wrong all the time in their polling?  Well, as noted, it’s either to state their opinion as news, something that stands in stark contrast to the “unbiased media” image they try to present, or to drive the opinion of readers.  Keep in mind, these are the same folks that tried to convince us last week that Obama “really, really, REALLY...no REALLY” didn’t want to run against Romney.  The same media that has attacked every GOP candidate that has taken the lead over Romney.  The same ones who attack the Tea Party protests as violent, racist, and hate speech while they praise the Occupy Wall Street movement as it riots, rapes, and violates federal law.  The same media that has washed over Solyndra, and Range Fuels, and “Fast and Furious”, and the “National Defense Authorization Act”, and a multitude of other scandals that have sprung from the Obama regime.

The same media that was 23 points off in South Carolina in hopes that they could drive Conservative voters away from the polls and secure a win for the most liberal candidate in the GOP field.  Kudos to the voters in South Carolina for seeing through the ruse.  Let’s hope the remainder of the nation sees through the pitiful polling as effectively as our southern friends.

A Denver Conservative in Liberal New York

by Ramarious 18. January 2012 05:00

Brushfire of Freedom

Ram Rants

Greetings from the Big Apple.  This week finds your favorite Rocky Mountain Conservative walking the streets of New York.  Why am I here in New York?  In January?  For a whole big batch of “nunya”, as the locals might say.  But, since I am here, I thought it might be fun to take a stroll around and “observe” the natives of the Liberal Mecca.  Plus there’s some really good food here and, well, I’ve been known to ingest a good Rueben from time to time.

And the Matzo Soup at the Stage Deli is to die for.

Not that I am advocating self sacrifice in light of good food.  That would be my first disclaimer.

My second would be that one of my first observations is that there are a lot of disclaimers here in New York.  There was not, however, a disclaimer on how cold it is here.  Especially in January.  Almost everything here has some type of warning, letting you know that what you are doing has the potential of causing injury, mental stress, or even, heaven save us, “discomfort”.  So much for the fabled “heartiness” of New Yorkers, unless you are referring solely to their ability to jog in freezing temps wearing nothing but shorts and a smile.

Another observation.  New York is an introvert’s paradise.  There are seven million people here, and you can go anywhere you like without speaking to anyone.  You can order a meal and eat it in peace, without 47 visits by the manger, wait staff, bus boy, greeter, crumb catcher, professional apologist, and all the others that tend to waltz by your table in most other places.  I managed to complete an entire meal without being forced to talk with my mouth full or quickly swallow to prevent being rude.  I enjoyed the meal.  It was pleasant, quiet, and quite good.

Still another.  While New York is in fact a liberal bastion, it is also still fiercely patriotic.  You can’t have salt on your food (it still tastes very good) and you can’t smoke anywhere except the “smoking oasis” outside your building.  There are enough bleeding hearts within walking distance of any location that the streets are nearly red.

Ok, that’s an exaggeration, but you get my point.  The Theatre District, certainly a left-leaning spot on the map if there was one, is surrounded by offices.  If you look into many of those offices you will see American flags hanging from ceilings, on walls, and in doors.  From my hotel room I can see into two different offices.  One has a flag hanging in the window, proudly displayed toward the street for all to see.  The other has a flag hanging over four different desks, in the center of the office, where any who come into that area will see the flag.

Almost every building here has an American flag out front.  The big flag is still up at the New York Stock Exchange.  You can get “French Fries” here, but they are often served with an American flag on a tooth pick in the bun of your burger.  New Yorkers are not only fiercely proud of their city, they seem to be very proud of their country, even ten years after 9-11.

Local law enforcement and other first responders are still held in the highest regard.  It was not only the blistering cold wind that was bringing tears to my eyes as I walked through Central Park.  Even in downtown Manhattan, just a few feet from the homes of Woody Allen and Alec Baldwin, there is evidence of a strong patriotism, even nationalism, still alive in New York. For one who has served as I have, and who is as Conservative as I am, it warms my heart, regardless of the freezing temperature.

So what will I take away after all this?  Well, Liberals are still looney, still in need of constant disclaimers, less independent, and closer to Socialism than any Conservative.  Their views on government are wrong to the point of being nearly destructive, but they believe this is in the best interest of their nation, and they make a pretty mean slice of pizza.

Too bad I can’t say the same for the Liberals in Washington, D.C.

The Beginning of the End

by Ramarious 11. January 2012 05:00

 Brushfire of Freedom

Ram Rants

We’ve seen a lot of power-grabbing by the Obama regime in the past three years.  There’s Obamacare, the Dodd-Frank debacle, and the theft of the American auto industry.  He’s been a busy little bee since he was inaugurated in 2009.

And of course there’s the golf.  And the expensive Alice in Wonderland parties.  And the trips to Hawaii.  And the apology tour. And the list goes on.

But over the past few weeks it seems things have sped up just a bit for Barry and the Liberal Bunch.  There appears to be some level of urgency to get some specific things done.  Evidence?

Well, let’s talk first about the non-recess recess appointment.  The purpose of those appointments, aside from creating a conflict with Congress, was to get some key posts filled in the new Financial Oversight department.  The way that Dodd-Frank was written, the department can’t fully function without a director.  Obama wanted to have his very liberal, very anti-business buddy Dick Cordry appointed to the inaccurately named “Consumer Financial Protection Bureau”.  But the Senate, the Democrat-run Senate, blocked Obama’s appointment.

Those of you who have spent time in the Constitution (i.e. not Mitt Romney) will recognize that the Senate has the power of “advice and consent” on Presidential appointees.  This prevents a President from abusing his authority to appoint cabinet members, judges, and other people who have power over the populace but are not directly accountable to the people.  The Senate acts as the “check and balance”, and acts on behalf of the governed.

So Obama clearly felt that his ability to get his buddy Dick through the Senate gauntlet was limited.  Thus he waited until the planned holiday recess.  But DRAT, he was tricked by both parties who have employed a trick made popular by Dirty Harry Reid back in the “W” days, the “pro forma” session.  The Senate is technically in session because the Senate “meets” every three days.  Obama has even recognized this as an “in session” state because he signed the extension of the unemployment welfare bill that was “passed” by the Senate during one such pro forma session.

So why the rush?  Why is Obama in such a hurry to implement his plan to rape the US Military?  Why is he pushing through these appointments despite the potential for Judicial over ride?  Why is he giving away the secrets of the US missile systems to our enemies?

Well, why are Obama staffers bailing almost weekly?  Likely the very same reason.

Obama hears footsteps.

To put it another way, the clock is ticking.  It is the eleventh hour.  His term has nearly expired.  He’s almost a stiff.  His term is almost up and his chances of re-election decline daily.  We may well be witnessing the death throes of the Obama Regime.

Barry, knowing he will have little time after 2012 to implement the remainder of his destructive agenda, has decided to step on the gas and get things done now.  Damn the election, and the will of The People, full speed down the liberal toilet.  I sense the first inkling of a bit of panic on the part of Obama.

More proof?  Why do you think he wants Romney in the White House in his place?  Because Romney is the least likely to repeal Obama’s beloved Obamacare.  After all, Obama’s plan is admittedly built on the concepts implemented by Romney whilst he was governor of Massachusetts.  He’s telling us he fears Romney so that “moderates” who have turned against Obama will push for Romney.  Romney will have a hard time, politically, eliminating a program that is based on his own Romneycare.

Hey, if I’m wrong, nothing happens.  But, if I am right, you can expect things to get more frantic as Obama attempts to stretch the limits of his authority well beyond their boundaries and force the remainder of his agenda down America’s throat.  His thought process is clear.  The more he gets done, the longer it will take to undo, and maybe some of it will stick.  He can then claim victory over America, the only nation he’s really ever hated.

The next few weeks will tell.

Three Years

by Ramarious 4. January 2012 05:00

Brushfire of Freedom

Ram Rants

As I scribble this little missive the fine folks in Iowa are doing what they usually do this time every four years.

Having dinner.

But AFTER dinner, they all bundle up...

Well, not all of them, but many of them.

Ok, some of them.

A few of them bundle up and head out to the local schools and other public sites and sit down and “caucus”.

Caucus - noun ( pl. caucuses )

a meeting of the members of a legislative body who are members of a particular political party, to select candidates or decide policy.

This is the very first step in selecting the next President of the United States.  No, not the GOP candidate.  If there is anyone left in this nation that is willing to look over the past three years, honestly and objectively, then it is highly unlikely that Obama will be in the White House after 2012.  The probability is very low.  Not zero, there are no absolutes.  He could, based on the laws he just signed, imprison all Conservatives in the country the day before the election.  Without trial.  He said he wouldn’t, but he can.  He could.  That would ensure his re-election.  He certainly won’t win based on his record.  Don’t believe me?  Let’s take a look at that record, shall we?

Unemployment has been over 8% since shortly after Obama took office.  With the exception of November, it has been above 9% for this entire year.  This is not the sign of a “recovering” economy.  It’s also not a “gold star” for the Obama record.

What else?  Well, our national debt is now over $15 trillion dollars.  Obama has overseen a larger three-year increase in the national debt than at any other time in history.  Ever.  You’d be hard pressed to call that a positive aspect of any record.  We’re $14 billion from breaking the debt ceiling that was just increased.  Again.  Obama has even floated the idea of raising the debt ceiling.  Again.

I’ve asked this question before, but it’s worth asking again.  What’s the purpose of setting a limit if you just move it each time it’s hit?  Can I do this with the speed limit?  I’d get to work a lot faster if I could move the limit past 55 when my speedometer said “55mph”.

Let’s talk about the government takeover of private industry under the Obama regime.  How many car companies are now owned by Obama?  How many banks?  What about the health care industry?  Roughly one sixth of the US economy is now under Obama’s control.  And they’re not doing all that well.  You think you want to buy a Chevy Volt?

Health care costs are on the rise, unemployment is up, debt is up, and the size of government is up.  For all that to be true, and it all is, then something else must have shrunk.

That’s right, that would be the middle class.  The shrinking of our middle class has already been documented in the media, believe it or not.  It’s worse in minority groups.  This type of division in the classes, and the decline of the middle class, is a common occurrence when Socialism is the dominant political philosophy.  I’m not saying Obama is a socialist but, well, ok I AM saying Obama is a socialist.  It’s hard to argue the facts:

  1. Increased government size
  2. More and more industry under government control
  3. Increased entitlements (i.e. the new unemployment welfare plan)
  4. Collapsing middle class

I think it’s hard to argue the facts.  Those points are all part of the three-year record of this President.  So, keep in mind as we move through the various causes and primary elections.  We, the members of the GOP, the Conservatives, are selecting the next President of the United States.

Either that, or I’ll see you in the local jail.
